As part of Oxfam’s Climate Risk Insurance (CRI-II) program, Boomcast is implementing Weekly Climate Voice Alerts for Farmers (WCVAF)—a voice-based agro-meteorological advisory service. This initiative aims to strengthen climate resilience among 17,000 smallholder farmers by providing timely, localized climate information and crop management advice through weekly voice SMS in Bangla.
Targeting farmers with low literacy and limited access to climate data, the service delivers updates on weather forecasts, rainfall, temperature, humidity, and practical crop-specific guidance (e.g., paddy, potato, pumpkin). By using mobile voice messages, the initiative ensures inclusivity and accessibility in climate communication.
Key objectives include increasing awareness of climate variability, improving preparedness, and enabling farmers to make informed, adaptive decisions. The system also collects data to assess its technical and operational performance and inform potential scaling across other high-risk regions.
This project demonstrates Boomcast’s continued leadership in delivering scalable, voice-based climate advisory solutions to rural farming communities in Bangladesh.
These projects collectively demonstrate Boomcast’s leadership in delivering scalable, voice and SMS-based communication solutions that effectively bridge the gap between expert knowledge and rural communities. By leveraging low-tech, high-impact tools, Boomcast supports climate resilience, agricultural modernization, and informed decision-making in underserved areas. Its mobile-based infrastructure has proven effective in digitizing agricultural supply chains, enhancing farmer engagement, and promoting sustainable and inclusive rural development across Bangladesh.
