Oxfam – Agro Meteorological Advisory Services
As part of Oxfam’s Climate Risk Insurance (CRI-II) program, Boomcast is implementing Weekly Climate Voice Alerts for Farmers (WCVAF)—a voice-based agro-meteorological advisory service. This initiative aims to strengthen climate resilience among 17,000 smallholder farmers by providing timely, localized climate information and crop management advice through weekly voice SMS in Bangla.
Targeting farmers with low literacy and limited access to climate data, the service delivers updates on weather forecasts, rainfall, temperature, humidity, and practical crop-specific guidance (e.g., paddy, potato, pumpkin). By using mobile voice messages, the initiative ensures inclusivity and accessibility in climate communication.
Key objectives include increasing awareness of climate variability, improving preparedness, and enabling farmers to make informed, adaptive decisions. The system also collects data to assess its technical and operational performance and inform potential scaling across other high-risk regions.
- Coverage Areas: Cox’s Bazar
- Duration: May – December 2025
This project demonstrates Boomcast’s continued leadership in delivering scalable, voice-based climate advisory solutions to rural farming communities in Bangladesh.
These projects collectively demonstrate Boomcast’s leadership in delivering scalable, voice and SMS-based communication solutions that effectively bridge the gap between expert knowledge and rural communities. By leveraging low-tech, high-impact tools, Boomcast supports climate resilience, agricultural modernization, and informed decision-making in underserved areas. Its mobile-based infrastructure has proven effective in digitizing agricultural supply chains, enhancing farmer engagement, and promoting sustainable and inclusive rural development across Bangladesh.
BRAC Fisheries – SMS Booking and Alert Solution
To streamline access to quality aquaculture inputs, Boomcast partnered with BRAC Fisheries to develop an SMS-based booking and notification system targeting 15,000 smallholder fish farmers across Bangladesh. The service enabled farmers to book Tilapia, Carp, and Catfish fry via SMS or call, receive automated confirmations and reminders, and stay updated on delivery schedules from BRAC’s certified hatcheries.
The system featured a booking management dashboard for BRAC teams, multilingual SMS alerts aligned with fry availability and breeding cycles, and real-time communication between hatcheries and farmers. This reduced reliance on intermediaries, minimized logistical inefficiencies, and improved production planning.
As a result, the project led to:
- Improved supply chain transparency
- Reduced communication gaps between hatcheries and end-users
- Increased fry uptake and enhanced operational efficiency
By serving 15,000 beneficiaries, this project demonstrated how Boomcast’s simple, mobile-based communication infrastructure can effectively digitize agricultural supply chains, improve farmer incomes, and support inclusive rural economies.
mPower – Agro Advisory eService
Boomcast, in partnership with mPower Social Enterprises Ltd. delivered personalized, timely, and localized agri-climate advisories to 10,000 smallholder farmers across rural Bangladesh. The campaign utilized Boomcast’s voice and SMS capabilities to provide AI-generated, crop-specific guidance on planting, irrigation, fertilization, harvesting, and pest and disease alerts, based on real-time field data and weather conditions.
Messages were delivered at critical decision-making points in the crop lifecycle and in regional dialects to ensure clarity and relevance, particularly for low-literacy farmers. Farmers received regular voice calls with actionable advice tailored to their location and crops, supported by supplementary SMS reminders. Boomcast’s analytics platform tracked delivery and engagement, allowing for timing adjustments to maximize impact.
This project showcased how low-tech, high-impact communication tools like Boomcast can bridge the gap between agricultural expertise and rural communities, supporting climate resilience, informed decision-making, and sustainable rural development.
